First Grade Mathematics Expectations
By the end of the first grade, students should know basic addition and subtraction facts to 20 with quick recall of facts to 10.They should be able to create and solve word problems to 18.They should be able to read, write, and count by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's to 120 forward and backward. First grade mathematicians will expand their knowledge of 2- and 3-dimensional geometric figures. They will practice using measurement tools to measure objects. They will represent and compare data. First grade mathematicians will communicate their mathematical knowledge using numbers, words, pictures or objects.
